Policies and Procedures

Review key policies and procedures before planning your CUIMC Faculty Club event. These guidelines outline requirements for alcohol service, student organization events, catering approvals, payment, and other steps needed to help your event run smoothly.

CUIMC Alcohol Policy

As prescribed by law and University policy, no individual on the CUIMC campus shall be sold, served, given, or otherwise receive alcoholic beverages if that individual is not at least 21 years of age.

We strictly abide by Columbia University's guidelines regarding the serving and consumption of alcohol. At any event where we serve alcohol, we expect guests to drink responsibly and lawfully. When planning events, please keep the following Faculty Club-specific guidelines in mind:

  • Whenever alcohol is served, both non-alcoholic beverages and food must also be served.
  • For the safety of our guests, our bartenders reserve the right to not serve alcohol to those who appear to have consumed excessive amounts.
  • Depending on the type of event, you may need to have a security guard present as an additional precaution.

If you plan to serve alcohol at your event, contact your designated student club advisor for guidance.

See the full University guidelines.

Student Organization Guidelines

If you are a student organization hosting an event, please follow these steps to get started:

  1. Consult with your club adviser before booking any catering services. Per our policy, any contract made on behalf of a student organization must be signed by a faculty member or student club director—in other words, an employee of Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
  2. Review CUIMC's alcohol policy.
  3. Have an ARC ChartString ready for payment. Although we can accept other forms of payment, any option other than a ChartString will incur a sales tax.
  4. Get started! Submit the catering form.
