About the Speaker:  Asher Williams, PhD, Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at Columbia Engineering Dr. Asher Williams served as a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell University prior to joining the Chemical Engineering Department at Columbia Engineering in 2023. She received her BS in chemical and biomolecular engineering in 2015 from New York University and a PhD in chemical engineering in 2020 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Williams Lab harnesses biological tools to manipulate protein-carbohydrate interactions for therapeutic and biomedical applications - including drug delivery, vaccine development, and the design of diagnostic tools to better understand and treat disease. This program is organized by the Office for Postdoctoral Affairs and the Zuckerman Institute.

"Physiological Sensing with Computational Fabric" Xia Zhou, PhD is Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Columbia University, where she directs the Mobile X laboratory. Before joining Columbia in 2022, she was a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science at Dartmouth College. Her research interests lie broadly in mobile computing with recent focuses on light based communication and sensing, textile-based sensing, and human-computer interactions.  She is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award (PECASE) in 2019, SIGMOBILE RockStar Award in 2019, the Karen E. Wetterhahn Memorial Award for Distinguished Creative and Scholarly Achievement in 2018 and named as N2Women: Rising Stars in Networking and Communication in 2017. She has also won the Sloan Research Fellowship in 2017, NSF CAREER Award in 2016, and Google Faculty Research Award in 2014.  She received her PhD at UC Santa Barbara in 2013 and MS at Peking University in 2007.
