Steppin' Through History: Columbia University Step Challenge

For three weeks, university-wide faculty and staff will aim for 7,000 steps daily to contribute to the journey through Columbia’s milestones in history. Participants from CUIMC will be eligible for additional prizes. Let’s get steppin’ CUIMC!

As member of the CUIMC community, when registering select your affiliated school or office (see descriptions below) and you will be automatically be eligible for additional prizes.  

The challenge will be hosted on the mobile app, MoveSpring, where you can track your steps, share photos, and more.

 

Selecting your CUIMC School/Division

When registering, as a CUIMC employee, please select the school or division based on your role at CUIMC. See below for descriptions. 

  • College of Dental Medicine
    • Faculty and staff that work at/for the school
  • CUIMC Central Administration
    • Budget/Finance/Controllers Office, Facilities Management and Campus Services, IT, Public Safety, Communications, Government & Community Affairs, HR, Academic Affairs/Faculty Affairs/ISSO, ICM, EH&S and CUIMC based employees from the Office of Research
  • Mailman School of Public Health
    • Faculty and staff that work at/for the school
  • School of Nurs​ing
    • Faculty and staff that work at/for the school
  • Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons
    • Faculty and Staff the work at/for the school which includes our clinical and basic departments, or groups that support those activities

Instructions on how to join the challenge on the MoveSpring app will be shared prior to the challenge start.

Description of Awards and Prizes

CUIMC Awards and Prizes: For CUIMC faculty and staff*

  • ​Challenge MVP- participant with the highest step count at the end of the challenge (regardless of team) 
  • Team High Steppers- the participant with the highest total step count on each team (excluding challenge MVP)  
  • Step Contributor Raffle- any participant contributing steps during the challenge will be entered in a raffle to win a prize (3 prizes total) 

*CUIMC Awards and Prizes will be announced on November 15th at the CUIMC Employee Appreciation Fall Festival on Haven Plaza

CU Awards and Prizes

  • Challenge MVP: the participant with the highest total step count by the challenge end
  • Best Cheerleaders: 3 participants who have shown consistent encouragement in the chat by rooting for others and keeping the team energized
  • Top Stepper Raffle: The 20 participants with the highest total step will be entered in a raffle (3 prize winners)
  • Step Contributor Raffle: all participants who have contributed to the total step count will be entered into a raffle to win healthy prizes (2 prize winners)
