Mentoring Resources & Sponsorship Opportunities
The Office of Faculty Professional Development and Engagement provides resources and support to departments/academic units and faculty for facilitating successful mentoring relationships for CUIMC faculty. These mentoring resources include practical guides, resources and toolkits that help facilitate and drive successful mentoring relationships. We also have a group of senior faculty who can provide guidance to faculty in one-on-one meetings.
In 2016, with help from faculty across the University, the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion published the Guide to Best Practices in Faculty Mentoring, which provides guidance and suggestions to faculty and academic units for developing and implementing mentoring programs.
Faculty careers in academic medicine are dynamic and mentoring needs may change over time. To optimize mentorship opportunities, faculty may need to rely on a network of mentors, rather than a single mentor, to advance their goals. This worksheet provides strategies for developing a mentoring network and should be reviewed and updated regularly to ensure that the network is refreshed as needs change.

Sponsorship Opportunities
Full-time VP&S faculty members are eligible for funding from the Office of Academic Affairs to attend the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) professional development seminars. Faculty must contact the VP&S Office of Academic Affairs prior to applying in order to take advantage of these opportunities. Opportunities are announced by email from the Office of Academic Affairs when available.
External Professional Development Sponsorship Opportunities
Early-Career Faculty Leadership Development Seminar
The AAMC provides in-person faculty leadership development seminars for physicians and scientists who hold medical school appointments at the instructor or assistant professor level and are in the early stages of leadership positions within their discipline, department or institution. This seminar presents participants with a foundation for modeling leadership behavior and assists them with creating individual leadership goals.
The Office of Academic Affairs provides funds to partially cover the registration costs of full-time VP&S faculty members who attend this seminar. Faculty must contact the Office of Academic Affairs prior to applying to the seminar in order to take advantage of this opportunity.
Mid-Career Faculty Leadership Development Seminar
The AAMC provides in-person faculty development seminars for those at the associate professor level and those with leadership positions within their discipline, department or institution. This intensive and highly interactive seminars emphasize the skills needed to advance to senior roles within academic medicine, and provides time for participants to strategically reinvigorate and realign their career with their goals.
The Office of Academic Affairs provides funds to partially cover the registration costs of full-time VP&S faculty members who attend this seminar. Faculty must contact the Office of Academic Affairs prior to applying to the seminar in order to take advantage of this opportunity.
