A donation from the Carol and Gene Ludwig Family Foundation will allow Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons to launch a neurodegenerative disease research center.
“What you’re seeing is behavior that looks disruptive but may be post-traumatic stress or depression,” said Dr. Warren Ng, a psychiatrist at Columbia's Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.
People experiencing mild symptoms often put off going to the doctor until the New Year because they are busy or traveling, says Mitch Elkind, a stroke neurologist at Columbia University in Manhattan.

"Pregnant and postpartum people are known to face barriers to accessing drug treatment and harm reduction services," Emilie Bruzelius said in a Columbia news release.
Dr. Gaddy Noy, a psychiatrist in the emergency room at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia hospital, said some days only a single psychiatric bed is free at nearby hospitals.
The flood of patients that sexual health clinics saw this summer has slowed to a trickle, said Dr. Jason Zucker, an infectious disease specialist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
