NEWS

New Grad School Rankings: VP&S, Nursing, and Mailman in Top Spots   
New rankings of graduate and professional schools by U.S. News & World Report place Columbia’s medical, public health, and nursing schools among the top schools in their respective categories. The Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons ranked No. 3 among research medical schools, its highest ranking ever, in a tie with Johns Hopkins and the University of California, San Francisco. The Mailman School of Public Health ranked No. 4, in a tie with Emory University. The School of Nursing ranked No. 5 among nursing schools in doctor of nursing practice programs and No. 6 in master’s programs. Read more

Columbia’s Diabetes Center Receives $20 Million Gift from Mike and Maria Repole on Behalf of The Nonna’s Garden Foundation

Volunteer to Be a CUIMC Commencement Host
Volunteers are needed to support in-person CUIMC graduations, May 16-19. CUIMC Commencement Week is an exciting and busy time on campus and the dedication and enthusiasm of volunteer hosts contribute greatly to its success. Typical host duties include welcoming and directing guests, graduates, and faculty; escorting guests with special needs; providing general facility information; and assisting with program distribution. CUIMC Inclusive Hiring Effort, Project PossABILITY, Receives City Award
CUIMC's inclusive hiring program, which connects workers with intellectual or developmental disabilities to job opportunities at the medical center, received a 2022 Customized Employment Award. Read more

GRANTS

VAGELOS COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS

Jahar Bhattacharya, MD, DPhil, Medicine, will receive $1,803,945 over five years from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for “The Columbia University Training Program in Lung Science.”

Yaakov Stern, PhD, Sergievsky Center, will receive $12,216,568 over five years from the National Institute on Aging for “Exploring cognitive aging using reference ability neural networks.”

Melissa Stockwell, MD, Pediatrics, will receive $1,809,329 over five years from the Health Resources and Services Administration for “NRSA for Primary Medical Care.”

Moriya Tsuji, MD, PhD, Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center, will receive $348,780 over two years from the Army Medical Research and Materiel Command for a subaward of “Layer-by-Layer Multiple Antigen Nano-delivery Platform for SARS-CoV-2 Vaccines.”

Zhiguo Zhang, PhD, Institute for Cancer Genetics, will receive $4,233,310 over five years from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for “Mechanism of Epigenetic Inheritance.”

Alwyn Cohall, MD, was named the 2022-2023 Vanneck-Bailey Scholar.
