VAGELOS COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS

Hemali Phatnani, PhD, and Ai Yamamoto, PhD, Neurology: $8,145,067 over five years from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for “The physical biology of neurodegeneration in sporadic Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/Frontotemporal Dementia.”

MAILMAN SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH

Diane Re, PhD, and Markus Hilpert, PhD, Environmental Health Sciences: $3,428,823 over five years from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences for “Neurotoxic and neurodegenerative risks from chronic exposure to metal mixtures in e-cigarette aerosol.”

SCHOOL OF NURSING

Yihong Zhao, PhD, Division of Scholarship & Research: $577,824 over three years from the National Institute of Mental Health for a subaward of “Use of Advanced Analytics to Understand Brain-Behavior Screen Media Activity Relationship in ABCD Data.”

College of Dental Medicine

Biana Roykh, DDS: $500,000 over one year from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation for “Columbia University College of Dental Medicine Mobile Dental Van.”

HONORS

VAGELOS COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS

Five research teams at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons were awarded 2022 Precision Medicine Pilot Grants to advance the fields of cardiovascular disease, colorectal cancer, rare disease, organ transplant, and precision psychiatry. Read more. 

The Columbia Clinical Innovation Lab was awarded a 2022 CUIT Emerging Technologies grant for a Coordination of Care focused project developing an Optimized Patient Scheduling Algorithm.  
 
Jaime Rubin, PhD, Medicine, was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to work with the Republic of Kosovo’s Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.

Jul 11, 2022 - The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline on July 16 is getting a new, three-digit number, a place where people in the U.S. can call for help with suicidal thoughts or other mental-health crises. ... The calls are particularly helpful when the counselors are properly trained in suicide-risk management, said Madelyn Gould, a Columbia University epidemiologist and research scientist at New York State Psychiatric Institutewho studies suicide prevention and leads the evaluation of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Read more.
