Changing Our Thoughts About Food

Tune in today for a half-hour TV special that features two members of the Columbia University Medical Center community. The special, "Food Revolution," describes innovative models for growing, buying, and relating to food.

Wahida Karmally, DrPH, a nutritionist at CUMC, appears on the show to address potential consumer misunderstandings about foods labeled "organic" or "natural." Dr. Karmally defines the terms and discusses new enforcement standards.

Dickson Despommier, PhD, a retired CUMC faculty member and author of "The Vertical Farm: Feeding the World in the 21st Century," will discuss vertical and soil-free solutions to feeding the global population.

The special airs on CUNY TV at 10 a.m., 3 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. today and will be repeated Sunday at noon. It also can be viewed at any time on www.cuny.tv.
