New VP&S Faculty

The VP&S Office of Faculty Affairs has provided this list of full-time faculty who joined the medical school in January and February 2026:


  • Georgia Charkoftaki, PhD, Pediatrics: Charkoftaki’s research focuses on integrating imaging mass spectrometry with multi-omics approaches to define cellular metabolic phenotypes and uncover mechanisms underlying metabolic disorders.
  • Steven Daniels, MD, Radiology: Daniels is a diagnostic radiologist specializing in musculoskeletal radiology. His research interests include peripheral nerve imaging and imaging of the hand and wrist. He serves as site director for ColumbiaDoctors/NewYork-Presbyterian Imaging at Och Spine at NewYork-Presbyterian/The Spiral.
  • Alric D. Hawkins, MD, Psychiatry: Hawkins is a consult-liaison psychiatrist with interests including management of readmission risk of patients with co-morbid medical and psychiatric illness and utilization of evidence-based medicine to optimize standardization of care.  He also has an interest in enhancing health care delivery for patients from vulnerable communities through clinical teaching. 
  • Matthew Hoffman, MD, Ob/Gyn: Hoffman is an obstetrician-gynecologist with a primary focus on research, largely centered on the conduct of trials to prevent preterm birth and understand the longitudinal health outcomes stemming from pregnancy on both women and their children. This work has included studies in the United States and low-middle income countries.
  • Dig Bijay Mahat, PhD, Systems Biology: The Mahat lab studies enhancer-mediated gene misregulation in immune dysfunction diseases, investigating how cell-type-specific regulatory elements control gene expression in cancer and immune cells and shape the tumor microenvironment. The lab aims to discover and characterize therapeutically relevant enhancers and regulatory logic using advanced genomic tools and computational approaches.
  • Abigail Marie Weber, PsyD, Psychiatry: Weber is a licensed clinical psychologist at Columbia Clinic of Anxiety and Related Disorders at ColumbiaDoctors.
