New VP&S Faculty

The Office of Faculty Affairs at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons has provided this list of full-time faculty who joined the medical school in the spring of 2025:

  • Cynthia Akagbosu, MD, MA, Pediatrics: Akagbosu is pediatric gastroenterologist who is triple board-certified in pediatrics, pediatric gastroenterology, and obesity medicine. Her clinical expertise and practice focus on GLP-1 agonists, bariatric endoscopy, and non-surgical procedures to garner weight loss in adolescents. Her research examines their safety and efficacy as it relates to improving obesity-related comorbidities such as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia.
  • Mustafa G. Aydogan, PhD, Genetics & Development: Aydogan investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern time control in animal development and developmental metabolism, with a focus on the emerging concept of autonomous clocks. His lab is also interested in uncovering the molecular circuits and metabolic sustenance programs that underlie the suspension of biological time, such as during cellular quiescence, senescence, and dormancy. Read more about Aydogan in the CUIMC Newsroom.
  • Jennifer Cunningham, DPT, Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine: Cunningham is director of clinical education and a board-certified geriatric clinical specialist. She is currently in an EdD program at Northeastern University.
  • Sergei Doulatov, PhD, PhysiologyDoulatov’s research focuses on the biology of hematopoietic stem cells and hematological malignancies. Leveraging induced pluripotent stem cells and gene editing, he seeks to understand how the acquisition of oncogenic mutations drives malignant transformation, with the long-term goal of identifying fundamental mechanisms of disease and developing targeted therapies to eradicate malignant stem cells.
  • Niyati Goradia, MD, Medicine: Goradia is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist. Her clinical focus includes gastrointestinal and genitourinary cancers such as colon, pancreatic, liver, prostate, and kidney cancers. Her research interests include expanding access to clinical trials in a community oncology setting.
  • Marielia Gerena, MD, Radiology
  • Aiwu Ruth He, MD, PhD, Medicine: Aiwu Ruth He is a medical oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal malignancies, with a particular focus on hepatobiliary cancers and transplant oncology. She serves as the director of hepatobiliary cancers in the Department of Medicine and as the director of liver transplant oncology at the Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation. Her work focuses on testing innovative therapies, developing biomarkers for treatment selection, and advancing precision oncology in hepatobiliary cancer, and she is committed to expanding the clinical research portfolio in primary liver and biliary tract cancers. She is deeply dedicated to a programmatic, multidisciplinary approach to clinical care, aiming to ensure the best possible outcomes for her patients across the continuum of cancer treatment.
  • Mandisa Jones, MD, Anesthesiology
  • Meghan B. Lane-Fall, MD, Anesthesiology: Lane-Fall is the E. M. Papper Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology. She is an internationally renowned implementation scientist whose work combines systems engineering and behavioral science to foster the uptake of evidence-based practices in acute care and in maternal health. • Sara Dobosh Morgenstern, PsyD, Psychiatry: Morgenstern is a licensed clinical psychologist with the ABC Early Childhood Program at ColumbiaDoctors.
  • Bing Ren, PhD, Genetics & Development: Ren is associate director of the Roy and Diana Vagelos Institute for Basic Biomedical Science and scientific director and chief executive officer of the New York Genome Center. His work has advanced our understanding of how genetic variants are interpreted and how gene activities are regulated throughout development and disease pathogenesis, to ultimately improve patient care. • Rebecca Trachtman, MD, Pediatrics: Trachtman is a board-certified pediatric rheumatologist, with particular expertise in autoinflammatory disease. Her research interests include autoinflammatory disease, especially systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and health-related quality of life.
  • Muhammad Umair, MD, Radiology: Umair is a diagnostic radiologist specializing in cardiac and vascular imaging and cardiovascular MRI. His research is focused on ethical and economic considerations in the implementation of artificial intelligence in radiology; cost-effective use of cardiac MRI; MRI contrast agents, including nanoparticle-based contrasts; MRI in vasculature including 4D flow; and parametric mapping and ECV in cardiac MRI and ARVD.
  • Jennifer Yeung, MD, Medicine: Yeung is a primary care doctor and internist certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a strong advocate for an individualized approach to patient care by utilizing the latest, most effective, and research-backed medical treatments.
