Can Subway Noise Damage Your Hearing?

Anil Lalwani, MD, is an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, & throat doctor) at Columbia University Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. After hearing many complaints about noisy subway trains, Dr. Lalwani and his team set out to measure the sound profile of stations around the city. The researchers found that the noisiest platforms shared one thing in common: curved tracks.

Dr. Lalwani explains the study in the video above and also offers recommendations for what we can do to reduce the risk of long-term hearing damage from subway noise exposure.
