A Transition in Leadership for CUIMC Finance

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to share that Fran Caracappa, who served as Vice President, Finance and Controller, CUIMC, has stepped down from that role after nearly 20 years of outstanding service to the medical center. With Fran’s departure, I am pleased to share that Ting Shi, formerly Assistant Vice President and Deputy Controller for Financial Reporting, CUIMC, has been appointed Vice President, Finance and Controller, CUIMC.

Since joining CUIMC in 2007, Fran demonstrated exemplary leadership, including guiding the overhaul and modernization of CUIMC’s financial reporting and compliance activities, stabilizing these critical functions during a period of intense organizational change at the Medical Center. She effectively stewarded a wide variety of initiatives across CUIMC, including support for the expansion of the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health’s ICAP program; the financial management of the Dental College’s Article 28 dental clinic; formation of the medical school’s radiology joint ventures with NewYork-Presbyterian; and many other projects and ongoing programs. She was CUIMC’s primary liaison to Columbia University and NewYork-Presbyterian on a wide variety of finance and compliance activities and a trusted advisor on complex and confidential issues to colleagues in roles throughout CUIMC. Fran has not truly left the Medical Center as she continues to teach in the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health’s Department of Health Policy and Management, as she has done over the last six years.

As Vice President, Finance and Controller, CUIMC, Ting will oversee internal and external financial reporting, accounting, payroll, billing compliance, privacy, and general financial control and compliance functions activities for the campus. Ting has been an essential member and key leader within the CUIMC Controller’s Office since joining CUIMC in 2008. Her many accomplishments include recruiting and mentoring the current CUIMC Financial Reporting team; participating as a key member of the university project that designed and implemented the university’s current general ledger system; and managing the integration of the Epic electronic medical record system with university finance systems. Prior to joining Columbia, Ting served as the Assistant Controller at New York University’s Medical Center.

Please join me in congratulating Ting on her new role and in thanking Fran for her many accomplishments and contributions and her sincere dedication to CUIMC.

Sincerely,

William McKoy
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
