2020 Benefits Open Enrollment

Still Time: 2020 Benefits Open Enrollment Runs Til Nov. 22

Want to maximize your health care, retirement, and tuition benefits and make the most of what’s new for 2020? Now is the time to explore your options and plan for the future. Benefits Open Enrollment runs through Nov. 22. During this period, eligible faculty and staff members should review multiple benefits options and complete open enrollment.

As you make decisions about your benefits, keep in mind that most Columbia physicians accept insurance through employee health care plans. More than 1,800 physicians, surgeons, dentists, and nurses provide services in more than 230 specialties and subspecialties at the medical center and at ColumbiaDoctors locations in the New York metropolitan area. Use the ColumbiaDoctors website to search for a physician by name, specialty, or condition; insurance; location; language; gender; and whether the physician treats children or accepts new patients.

“Among the significant new offerings we’re rolling out are voluntary insurance benefits that complement our robust core benefits and fit the needs and lifestyle of our employees,” said Mike Bloom, assistant vice president for benefits and compensation at Columbia University. “You can purchase these voluntary benefits at discounted rates that are less than what’s offered in the marketplace.”

Though most benefits elections made last year will continue in 2020 unless you make changes, Bloom noted some exceptions. For example, each year you must enroll to participate in the health care flexible spending account (FSA), dependent care FSA and child care benefit contribution, and health savings account. Last year’s enrollment in these programs does not automatically renew.

Employees can access their benefits by logging into Cubes (uni and password required), the Columbia University benefits enrollment system. In-depth information about all benefits can be found on the human resources website
