The first annual World Voice Day is a worldwide celebration of the importance of the human voice and an opportunity to raise awareness of voice disorders and voice health. Physicians from the Voice and Swallowing Center at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, in conjunction with the American Academy of Otolaryngology and internationally renowned singer Neil Vélez, will present a program aimed to raise awareness about voice health and treatments. World Voice Day will involve many different components: education about voice disorders, professional voice use, laryngeal cancer, and preventative voice care. Neil Vélez will speak about his voice and voice treatments at the Voice and Swallowing Center, while Dr. Jonathan Aviv, medical director of the center, will demonstrate via live video a state-of-the-art non-radioactive outpatient test of swallowing ability. Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center is the first center in New York to offer the procedure, and serves as the training site for otolaryngologists to learn how to perform this procedure, called flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing with sensory testing (FEESST).

The Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center’s Voice and Swallowing Center, dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of voice and swallowing conditions, is the only such center in New York City.
