212/305-5587 212/821-0560 NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Offers Free Melanoma/Skin Cancer Screenings A Free Screening Could Save Your Life WHAT: NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s Dermatology Department will offer free melanoma/skin cancer screenings at three locations, with special outreach to firemen and -women since there has been a large increase in the number of melanomas diagnosed in firefighters in recent years. “It’s our way to thank them and to let them know we care about their health and well-being,” says NewYork-Presbyterian’s Desiree Ratner, MD, chairperson for the Greater New York Melanoma/Skin Cancer Screening initiative. Springtime reintroduces the sun into our lives, and the first Monday in May has been designated as “Melanoma Monday” to remind the public of the potential for harm that unprotected exposure to the sun’s rays can have.
