New VP&S Faculty

The VP&S Office of Faculty Affairs has provided this list of full-time faculty who joined the medical school this summer:

• Marzieh Majd, PharmD, PhD, Psychiatry (Medical Psychology): Majd’s current research investigates how inflammatory processes may influence inhibitory control and other aspects of neurocognitive function in bipolar disorder by integrating peripheral biomarkers with neuroimaging measures. The goal is to identify modifiable risk factors to improve cognitive outcomes.
• Kevin B. Alford, MD, Radiology: Alford is an assistant professor in the Division of Emergency Radiology.
• Eric P. Anctil, MD, Orthopedic Surgery: Anctil is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in the comprehensive care of foot and ankle disorders, including complex conditions such as advanced ankle arthritis, chronic tendon injuries, and sports-related trauma. Anctil was among the first surgeons in the U.S. to perform the Scandinavian Total Ankle Replacemen, and he remains an authority on ankle arthroplasty as an alternative to joint fusion.
• Ashley Armstrong, MD, Obstetrics & Gynecology: Armstrong is an obstetrician-gynecologist who is passionate about prenatal care, family planning, mental health, genitourinary syndrome of menopause, and care for elderly patients. She is deeply committed to mentorship, medical education and quality assurance. 
• Andrew M. Bellizzi, MD, Pathology & Cell Biology: Bellizzi is a surgical pathologist with expertise in gastrointestinal pathology, neuroendocrine neoplasia, and diagnostic immunohistochemistry. His academic work focuses on the development, validation, and application of immunohistochemical biomarkers for tumor classification and therapeutic decision-making, as well as on improving diagnostic practice through education and evidence-based laboratory standards.
• Dallas Leroy Broadway, MD, Radiology: Broadway is a board-certified diagnostic and interventional radiologist in the Division of Emergency Radiology who is interested in global healthcare development. He enjoys spending time with his family, skydiving, scuba diving, snowboarding, and international travel.                                                                             
• Liam Butchart, MD, Psychiatry: Butchart is a psychiatrist whose clinical focus spans acute care and outpatient psychiatry. His research focuses on the medical humanities, including literature and psychoanalysis, bioethics, and narrative medicine.
• Maximilliam Cabrera, MD, Psychiatry: Cabrera is an emergency room psychiatrist and fellowship-trained reproductive psychiatrist. He has an outpatient faculty practice where he treats patients with medication management and psychodynamic/psychoanalytic psychotherapy, with a special interest in working with LGBTQ+ patients.
• Alexander Chalphin, MD, Surgery: Chalphin is a general pediatric surgeon with interests in pediatric colorectal surgery, chest wall reconstruction, and medical education. 
• Daein Choi, MD, Medicine: Choi is a cardiologist specializing in advanced cardiac imaging, with expertise in utilizing cardiac PET, CT, and MRI to guide accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
• James Z. Fan, MD, Ophthalmology: Fan is the Jean and Kent Sheng Glaucoma Fellow and instructor in ophthalmology.
• Taylor Tiani Franklin, MD, Emergency Medicine: Franklin is a first-year medical education fellow with interests in undergraduate medical education and curricular design with a focus on equity, mentorship, and community outreach. 
• Sofya Gindina, MD, Ophthalmology: Gindina is the Cornea, Anterior Segment, and Refractive Surgery Fellow and instructor in ophthalmology.
• Christopher J. Lin, PsyD, Psychiatry: Lin is a licensed clinical psychologist at the Columbia University Clinic for Anxiety and Related Disorders-Westchester. His clinical interests focus on the evidence-based assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in children and adolescents using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and parent-based interventions. He also specializes in pediatric health psychology and providing care for youth with co-occurring mood, trauma-related, and neurodevelopmental disorders, with additional interests in neuropsychological assessment and integrated behavioral health.
• Kurren A. Mehta, MD, Medicine: Mehta is an advanced endoscopy fellow and instructor in medicine interested in pushing boundaries of minimally invasive endoscopic care. His clinical and academic interests include pancreaticobiliary disorders, advanced resection, foregut disease, and emerging technologies in therapeutic endoscopy.
• Anja Oksnes, MD, Medicine: Oksnes is interventional cardiologist and serves as co-director of Complex PCI and CTO Programs at CUIMC. Her clinical focus includes complex coronary interventions and chronic total occlusions. Her research is focused on new strategies and methods to improve safety and efficacy in complex coronary interventions. 
• Victoria Maria Pereira, MD, Emergency Medicine: Pereira is an emergency medicine physician and the Dr. Lorna M. Breen Emergency Medicine Fellow in Healthcare Administration. She is passionate about health equity, medical education, and quality and patient safety.
• Roshan Poudel, MD, Medicine: Poudel works as a hospitalist at the Allen Hospital and is interested in healthcare operations and resource utilization. 
• Michael John Rafizadeh, MD, Medicine: Rafizadeh’s interests focus on immunotherapy in advanced non-small cell lung cancer, EGFR mutant NSCLC, and musical intervention in opioid use disorder. 
• Sameer K. Singh, MD, Surgery: Singh is a cardiac surgeon specializing in the surgical treatment of advanced heart failure, heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and coronary revascularization. He has a particular interest in advancing robotic cardiac surgery to expand minimally invasive treatment options for complex cardiovascular disease. His research aims to optimize outcomes for patients with heart failure by improving surgical strategies, perioperative care, and the application of innovative technologies.
• Joanna L. Spencer-Segal, MD, PhD, Medicine: Spencer-Segal is an endocrinologist with specialization in disorders of the pituitary, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and Cushing’s syndrome. Her research focuses on the impact of stress hormones such as glucocorticoids on brain function and behavior, neural regulation of systemic physiology including the stress response, and new therapeutics for pituitary diseases. 
• Melanie Marie Stone, MD, Emergency Medicine: Stone is an instructor of emergency medicine and the department’s Medical Education Fellow.
• Alexander K. Ulfers, DO, Obstetrics & Gynecology: Ulfers joins Columbia after completing active duty service with the United States Air Force. He was most recently stationed at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the Uniformed Services University, where he was the medical director for the Maternal Infant Care Center and the director of advanced clinical rotations. He is passionate about developing well-rounded, practice-focused medical students who can meet the needs of the communities they serve. His previous research has focused on medical student clinical evaluation and competency-based medical education. 
• William R. Walter, MD, Radiology: Walter is a musculoskeletal radiologist whose clinical interests include musculoskeletal ultrasound and tumor imaging. He also serves as the director of medical student education in the Department of Radiology and is interested in fostering innovation and multidisciplinary collaboration at all levels of medical education.
• Danielle Weiss, MD, Radiology: Weiss is a pediatric radiologist with clinical and academic interest in the utilization of contrast enhanced ultrasound. 
• Kathryn I. Zabinski, MD, Emergency Medicine: Zabinski is an instructor in emergency medicine where she is completing a fellowship in adult ultrasound. Before joining Columbia, she was chief resident at Staten Island University Hospital. Her research interests include point-of-care ultrasound for the musculoskeletal system and women's health.
