Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center Sponsors 3rd Annual Halloween Candy Trade-In

Children with diabetes and their siblings may swap candy for toys at yearly Halloween party

WHAT: The Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center will sponsor a candy trade-in at its 3rd annual Halloween party for children with diabetes. Once they’ve collected their Halloween treats and enjoyed them for a night, the children can go to the center to trade in their candy for a toy of their choice and to enjoy more healthful and nutritious snacks. It is important children, especially those with diabetes, learn the importance of balance and moderation in nutrition and eating habits.

Other activities at the party will include a performance by a magician, face-painting by center staff, and scary story time. Children are welcome to wear costumes and healthful snacks will be served. Families are invited to attend.

Two organizations helping to organize the party are the Russ® Toys and the Starbright Foundation, an organization dedicated to the development of projects that empower seriously ill children to combat the medical and emotional challenges they face on a daily basis. The Berrie Center will then donate the candy to the 33rd precinct, which covers the Columbia University Health Sciences and medical center area.

WHEN & Friday, November 1 WHERE: 5 p.m. Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center Russ Berrie Medical Science Pavilion 1150 St. Nicholas Avenue at 168th Street New York, N.Y.
