Morton Aronson, MD, associate clinical professor of psychiatry at VP&S, died June 22, 2017.

Walter Berdon, MD, professor emeritus of pediatric radiology (in radiology and pediatrics), died Aug. 6, 2017. Read more about his impact.

John H. Bryant, MD, former director of the School of Public Health at Columbia, died July 5, 2017. He was a 1953 graduate of VP&S.

Ruth Dickinson, former director of the Program in Physical Therapy, died Jan. 24, 2017.

Renee Daiuta Feuerbach, PhD, former assistant professor of clinical nursing who directed the adult nurse practitioner program, died July 10, 2017. She earned two degrees from Columbia Nursing (BS in 1986 and MS in 1990).

Alvin Grayson, DDS, clinical professor of dental medicine, died Feb. 16, 2017.

James F. Hammill, MD, professor emeritus of clinical neurology, died June 21, 2017.

Dave Hunter, a junior accountant in the Mailman School of Public Health’s Department of Sociomedical Sciences who had supported the Community Health Advisory and Information Network since 2000, died Feb. 17, 2017.

Raphael Jewelewicz, MD, retired faculty member in obstetrics & gynecology, died July 21, 2017. Read a 1970 New York Times article published after Dr. Jewelewicz oversaw the birth of the Kienast quintuplets, America’s second set of surviving quintuplets.

Virginia Kanick, MD, retired clinical professor of radiology at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt, died Nov. 15, 2017. She was a 1951 graduate of VP&S.

Ronald Lewis Katz, MD, former professor of anesthesiology, died May 15, 2017.

Peter Y. Kim, MD, PhD, associate professor of neurology at CUMC, died Dec. 5, 2017.

Richard J. Kitz, MD, former associate professor of anesthesiology, died Sept. 19, 2017. A video tribute can be viewed here.

Dennis Lee, DDS, assistant clinical professor of dental medicine, died Oct. 12, 2017.

Alan Levenstein, a senior lecturer at the Mailman School of Public Health, died Nov. 6, 2017.

Henry S. “Harry” Lodge, MD, the Robert L. Burch Family Professor of Medicine and chair and CEO of New York Physicians, LLP, died March 10, 2017. He was a 1985 VP&S graduate.

Roger A. MacKinnon, MD, professor emeritus of clinical psychiatry, died July 24, 2017. He was the first fulltime director of the Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research and a 1950 VP&S graduate.

Raymond Raskin, MD, former member of the psychiatry faculty, died April 8, 2017.

Lewis P. “Bud” Rowland, MD, chair of neurology at VP&S and director of the Neurological Institute of New York for 25 years, died March 16, 2017. Read more about Dr. Rowland in Columbia Medicine magazine.

George Smartt, retired head of public safety at CUIMC, died Sept. 22, 2017.

Frank Rees Smith, MD, longtime professor of clinical medicine at VP&S, died Jan. 16, 2017. He was a 1962 graduate of VP&S.

Gail Sorrel-Mosk, MD, assistant professor of radiology at CUMC, died Sept. 19, 2017.

Virginia Warner, DrPH, associate in clinical psychiatry in the Division of Epidemiology at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and the Department of Psychiatry, died June 10, 2017.

Walter A. Wichern Jr., MD, professor emeritus of clinical surgery, died March 27, 2017.

John A. Wood, MD, retired clinical professor of medicine, died Sept. 17, 2017.
