Gala To Raise Funds For Columbia University Lyme Disease Research Center

U.S. Senator Chris Dodd to be honored for his work on Lyme disease

WHAT: The third annual Time for Lyme fund-raiser, sponsored by the Greenwich Lyme Disease Task Force, an education and advocacy network.

This year, Time for Lyme will continue to raise funds to establish the Columbia University Lyme Disease Research Center, the first Lyme disease research center in the United States. Planned activities include a cocktail reception, dinner, and live and silent auctions; the ballroom at this year’s location, the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich, will be transformed into a disco called the Lymelight Club. U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd, D-Conn., will accept the Time for Lyme Outstanding Service Award for his advocacy of national Lyme disease legislation.

Columbia University is establishing this research center to address the growing incidence of Lyme disease. Drawing on Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center’s vast resources, researchers at the center will examine the causes of chronic Lyme disease and search for better, more effective Lyme disease diagnostic tests and treatments.

WHO: Members of the Columbia University Health Sciences community, the Greenwich Lyme Disease Task Force, and U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd, D-Conn.

Speaking will be Dr. Brian Fallon, associate professor of clinical psychiatry at the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and director of the Lyme disease research program at Columbia University; Sen. Dodd; Deborah Siciliano and Diane Blanchard, task force co-presidents; Kendra Farn, WNBC-TV reporter; Noah Finz, WTNH sports director; and Pat Smith, national president of the Lyme Disease Association.

WHEN & Saturday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m. WHERE: The Hyatt Regency, 1800 E. Putnam Ave., Greenwich, Conn.
