Eating Disorders: Experts Discuss Treatment Options

February 20, 2015

Eating Disorders Awareness Week is February 22 – February 28. Tune in to Columbia Psychiatry’s BlogTalkRadio show for treatment news from leaders in the field of eating disorders. Two of the country’s leading experts will headline shows: Evelyn Attia, MD, director, Center for Eating Disorders at Columbia Psychiatry and Weill Cornell; and Michael Devlin, MD, associate director, Center for Eating Disorders at Columbia Psychiatry and the New York State Psychiatric Institute

How far would you go to get a body to die for? Even when faced with the possibility of dying, some adolescents diagnosed with an eating disorder struggle to end their self-starvation. Eating disorders—including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder—affect roughly 5 percent to 10 percent of women. Anorexia nervosa has a mortality rate as high as that seen in any psychiatric disorder.

On three days during Eating Disorders Awareness Week, our experts will break down treatment options for families:
