CUMC Health Care Forum to Feature Faculty Discussion on Global Health Equity

The second annual CUMC Health Care Forum will focus on global health. The Oct. 29 forum, held in conjunction with the Columbia Alumni Association’s Giving Day, will feature a panel discussion by faculty members in the College of Dental Medicine, the College of Physicians & Surgeons, the School of Nursing, and the Mailman School of Public Health.

“Achieving Global Health Equity: Strategies, Challenges and Champions” will be moderated by Randy Hutter Epstein, author of “Get Me Out: A History of Childbirth from the Garden of Eden to the Sperm Bank” and an adjunct faculty member at the Columbia Journalism School.

Panel members:

  • Stephen Nicholas, MD, associate dean for admissions, P&S; professor of pediatrics and population & family health; director of the IFAP Global Health Program and of the scholarly projects global health track
  • David A. Albert, DDS, associate professor of dental medicine (in health policy and management) at CUMC; director of the Division of Community Health, Section of Population Oral Health, College of Dental Medicine; and director of the NYP Fort Washington Avenue Ambulatory Care
  • Jennifer Dohrn, DNP, assistant professor of nursing, School of Nursing, and director, Office of Global Initiatives and WHO Collaborating Center for Advanced Practice Nursing
  • Margaret E. Kruk, MD, associate professor of health policy and management and director of the Better Health Systems Initiative, Mailman School of Public Health

Elaine Larson, PhD, the Anna C. Maxwell Professor of Nursing Research and associate dean for research at the School of Nursing, will offer a welcome. Dr. Larson is also professor of epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health.

The forum begins at 4 p.m. in the Bard Hall Lounge at 50 Haven Ave. A reception will follow the 90-minute panel discussion.
