CUIMC Celebrates the Inauguration of President Minouche Shafik

Minouche Shafik was inaugurated as the 20th president of Columbia University today. The investiture ceremony formally installed Shafik as university president, marking a public reaffirmation of the university’s commitment to service, impact, and academic excellence.

Katrina Armstrong, MD, chief executive officer of Columbia University Irving Medical Center and dean of the faculties of health sciences and the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Dennis A. Mitchell, DDS, MPH, interim provost of Columbia University and professor of dental medicine at the College of Dental Medicine, served as presiding officers during the ceremony.

The CUIMC community observed the ceremony at two watch parties held on campus, one in the Hammer Health Sciences Center and the other in the Columbia University School of Nursing. Attendees enjoyed light refreshments and accessories including glasses, crowns, and pennants.

The inauguration continues tonight on the Morningside campus with a celebration featuring a DJ, dancing, and a closing show.
