Appointment of Patrick Burke as VP, Facilities

Dear CUIMC community,

I am pleased to announce my appointment of Patrick Burke as Vice President for Facilities Management, Operations and Planning. Patrick has been doing an exemplary job in this role on an interim basis, and, after an extensive search, the wisdom of this outcome became clear. Patrick will report to Wil McKoy, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Patrick Burke

For the past 20 years, Patrick has been a leader in overseeing the most active period of physical growth in the medical center’s history. His range of experience encompasses managing close to $1 billion in CUIMC capital projects and building our network of off-site locations for our specialty clinical practices. Patrick’s involvement in constructing the Roy and Diana Vagelos Education Center, School of Nursing, Irving Cancer Research Center, and Haven Plaza, our transformative community gathering space, has made a lasting impact on our campus.

A graduate of Columbia’s School of General Studies and now a member of its Board of Advisors, Patrick’s Columbia roots run deep. He also holds a Master of Architecture degree from Princeton University and is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.

In his new role, Patrick will be responsible for seeing to completion a host of significant initiatives now in the planning or construction stages. They include the Berrie research expansion, slated to be one of the nation’s first net zero research facilities; the Audubon IV research building; and sustainability upgrades to our infrastructure and central plant. He will also be leading the large team of dedicated individuals who make CUIMC a workplace where world-changing things can happen: the engineers, custodians, groundskeepers, public safety officers, and other Facilities team members whom we rely upon each and every day, and who deserve our immense gratitude for their service.

The work of the Facilities unit is integral to every element of our mission: teaching, research, patient care, and community engagement. Patrick’s deep experience and longstanding relationships with CUIMC faculty and administrators equip him to successfully lead us through this period of critically important growth. Please join me in congratulating him and wishing him well.

All my best,
