TWENTY INFLUENTIAL POLICYMAKERS, OPINION LEADERS, MEDICAL SPECIALISTS AND OTHERS TAKE STOCK OF GLOBAL TRENDS IN WOMEN'S HEALTH AND CHANGING ATTITUDES TOWARD WOMEN'S HEALTH CARE

On April 5, Barnard College in New York City will convene a day-long Summit on women's health, bringing together 20 influential medical specialists, policymakers, opinion leaders, health activists, writers and journalists to explore trends in women's health worldwide and changing attitudes toward women's health issues. The 2003 Barnard Summit: Women and Health will go beyond discussion of specific diseases and treatments to take stock of how changes in women's lives affect their health and how women's health acts as a barometer for society's well being.

Three panel discussions will be led by:

The day-long event will focus on reproductive and mental health, gender differences in health care and research, AIDS, eating disorders, depression and menopause. Three panels will explore: current health trends among women; whether hospitals, the health care profession and medical researchers are serving women's needs; and the relevance of women's health internationally to sustainable development and global stability and security.
