Graduate Research Assistant: is a full-time candidate for a graduate degree at Columbia University, who is engaged in research that is in direct fulfillment of a requirement for the degree, and who is appointed for a term not to exceed twelve months, which shall be renewable, except that this title may not be held for more than a total of five years.
Officer of Administration: an employee who is in an exempt status and paid an annual salary. These are considered management positions and can be individual contributors or managers.
Officer of Instruction (Faculty): is an academic officer appointed for full-time or part-time service for a stated term (or with tenure). Full-time service implies a program of teaching, scholarly research, and, in the Faculties of Medicine, of Dental Medicine, of Nursing, and of Public Health, patient care. Officer of Library: is an officer who is appointed on the nomination of the University Librarian as professionally qualified to serve instruction and research by assembling appropriate collections of library materials; by developing and maintaining library services; and by furthering the use of library and information resources for instruction and scholarship.
Officer of Research: is an academic officer appointed for full-time or part-time service for a stated term and whose primary function is to conduct, support and /or participate in research. Officers of research titles can be found here.
Non-Union Support Staff: is an employee who works in a non-union and non-exempt status (hourly employee) support role.
Union Support Staff – is an employee who is covered by a collective bargaining agreement (union) and is non-exempt (hourly).
