Stem Cell Research

The Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine is committed to innovative translational stem cell research.

Columbia has over 100 stem cell laboratories performing stem cell research in areas including bioengineering, blood, bone/teeth, brain, cancer, diabetes, internal organs, neurodegeneration, skin, and stem cell biology. Under the leadership of director Emmanuelle Passegue, PhD, the Columbia Stem Cell Initiative (CSCI) is committed to exploring a broad range of potential stem cell applications, including disease modeling, screening for small molecule drug therapies, enhancement of endogenous stem cell function to enhance tissue repair, and regenerative therapies.
