Dr. Yazawa Receives CREST Program Grant

Masayuki Yazawa, PhD is awarded the Core Research for Evolutional Science and Technology (CREST) program grant by the Japanese Science and Technology Agency.

Dr. Yazawa will have $150,000 per year, for the next 5.5 years, to pursue his project titled "Optogenetics for genome engineering and application. "The project goal is to develop novel biotechnologies to engineer mammalian genome using light-activated system called "optogenetics" to understand a variety of biological activities," says Dr. Yazawa. Dr. Yazawa and his team will develop a new type of CRISPR/Cas9 technology that enables them to edit human genese precisely with spatiotemporal resolution.

Masayuki Yazawa, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the departments of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine and Pharmacology.
